The Basics of Modding

Creating mods for the Sims 4 game can be as easy as spreading butter on a slice of bread or as complicated as making a three course meal, but no matter the complexity of your mod we modders all use the same programs and follow the same recipes.

What are Mods?

Mods for the Sims 4 game can change or add new content to your game and it is your choice which content you want to change or to be added. As a mod creator you can change or create this new content yourself.

How to Become a Mod Creator?

Becoming a mod creator is simple and doesn’t require any special skills. All you need is a copy of the sims 4 game, a computer, software like the sims 4 studio, an idea for new content, and basic knowledge of xml.

Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about xml because I’m here to teach you everything you need to know to start creating your very first mod.

How to Get Started

Every mod starts with an idea and from that idea we dive into a the world of sims 4 modding.

I remember when I started creating my very first mod in April of 2022. I was sitting behind my computer with the sims 4 game open and as I was looking through the aspirations I couldn’t find an aspiration that matched my sims lifestyle. So, what did I do? I went to google and searched for aspiration tutorials, which were very hard to find. Eventually after hours on google I found a program called the Mod Constructor, which in 2025 is unfortunately not updated anymore. With the Mod Constructor I dipped my toes in the waters of sims 4 modding and from that day forward I have enjoyed creating new content for the sims 4 game.

All it takes is an idea. An idea of creating something in the game that is not available or the idea of changing something in the game. It doesn’t matter where you start or when you start as long as you have an idea and the patience to learn how to mod.

To start your modding journey I recommend checking out my YouTube channel and these blog posts:

Anything that isn’t linked yet has not yet been written. Most of these topics have already been talked about in videos on my YouTube channel.
